Didymos's Fadenwerk Turquoise (Türkis in German) is 100% organic cotton. At 210 GSM it's a bit thinner than a medium weight wrap.

The Brand

Didymos have been making baby wraps since 1972 and are widely considered to be the 'grandmother' of the modern babywearing brands. They are a German company, experienced in selling & shipping worldwide, and their website is available in several languages (including English for those of us whose grasp on other languages extends, embarrassingly, to ordering a glass of wine & requesting the bill!). Didymos's experience and focus on the safety and well-being of children, with attention to social and ecological ethics, has resulted in a brand that babywearers around the world have come to trust for affordable quality.

When I first started looking into baby wraps, Didymos was one of the names that my babywearing friends immediately suggested I try. Sure enough, one of my very first wraps was a 'Didy', and my first Mei Tai a 'Didytai'. I was therefore really excited to be offered the opportunity to test and review another of their new designs.

Your Didymos wrap will arrive in an iconic Didymos blue & white box with helpful leaflets detailing basic carries, safe useage & care instructions.

The Looks

The German word 'Fadenwerk' refers to 'Faden', meaning yarn, and is also a reference to threads, fabrics and weaving. I simply can't think of a better name for this fun, random, higgledy piggledy design. Didymos ran a giveaway for a prototype of the design last year, and it really caught my eye. It's like errant balls of wool or the leftover threads when I've finished sewing. For my husband it brings to mind the patterns that frost makes on glass and, in the Turquoise colourway particularly, I was reminded of the patterns of light at the bottom of a swimming pool on a sunny day. The design has no placement issues and looks great when wrapped. The rails are easily distinguishable, with one having a slim strip of colour instead of the pattern.

Fadenwerk Turquoise combines a dark blue warp with vivid turquoise weft. The turquoise positively glows in the sun and the beautiful bright colours are perfect for spring and summer. Both sides are lovely so you can choose between turquoise on blue or vice versa. The colours are radiant in the sun, and will cheer up even the most dreary English day!

The Wrapping Qualities

When I first took it out of the box, Fadenwerk felt light and quite thin but a little bit 'crunchy' in hand. Its first wash, tumble dry and steam iron soon sorted that out though, softening it up beautifully. It got even softer and floppier with its first couple of uses so needs no real 'breaking in' before use, even when wearing a newborn.

I carried my newborn son in Fadenwerk Turquoise in his first weeks of life. The wrap is thin, light and airy making it perfect for warmer weather. Now that spring has arrived we've enjoyed some lovely sunny days and Fadenwerk felt cool and breathable whilst wearing my little one even for long periods.

Fadenwerk is very easy to wrap with being light and mouldable with a small amount of diagonal stretch. The passes move into place easily but the design in the weave gives a considerable amount of grip so everything stays where you put it! Being thin, the knot is small, secure and easy to tie off. All these qualities make it a great choice as a first wrap for a new wrapper.

I also carried my (99th centile) two year old in Fadenwerk. The wrap is supportive enough to manage a heavier wrappee in multi-layer carries (I was testing a size 7), although I tend to prefer a thicker, cushier wrap for carrying my toddler for long periods, and found Fadenwerk to be a little 'diggy' after a while. However, due to being cool and easy care, Fadenwerk Turquoise would make a fantastic beach wrap for quick toddler ups and downs with sandy feet and wet swimming costumes!
